How our floor fitters work

  1. Call our floor fitters or send the form. Tell us the rooms and the floor you have bought or have in mind.
  2. We measure and quote. We check the subfloor, tell you exactly how much flooring to order, and send a written, itemised price.
  3. Our fitters fit it. Old floor out, subfloor prepared, new floor fitted, trims and thresholds finished.

Floor fitters for every type of flooring

  • Floor fitters for carpet floor, rendered illustration

    Floor fitters for carpet

Bedrooms, living rooms, stairs and landings fitted over the right underlay and new gripper. Our carpet fitters plan the seams before cutting, stretch the carpet properly so it does not ruck, and finish doorways with the correct threshold bars. Stair runners, and carpet tiles for home offices and rentals, too.

    Carpet fitting

  • Floor fitters for LVT floor, rendered illustration

    Floor fitters for LVT

Glue-down and click luxury vinyl tile from any brand, including Karndean and Amtico, in plank, tile and herringbone layouts. Glue-down LVT shows every flaw beneath it, so our fitters ply timber floors and smooth concrete first, then set out from the centre so the cuts are balanced at each wall.

    LVT fitting

  • Floor fitters for sheet vinyl floor, rendered illustration

    Floor fitters for sheet vinyl

Cushioned sheet vinyl and lino cut from the roll, so most kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms are covered with few or no joins. We template awkward rooms, cut tight around toilets and pedestals, and seal the edges beside baths and showers. Timber floors are overlaid with plywood so boards never show through.

    Sheet vinyl and lino fitting

  • Floor fitters for laminate floor, rendered illustration

    Floor fitters for laminate

Click laminate fitted as a floating floor over the correct underlay, with expansion gaps at every wall, door frames undercut and neat beading or skirting to finish. We check the subfloor is flat first, because a laminate floor that bounces or creaks has almost always been laid over an uneven base.

    Laminate floor fitting

  • Floor fitters for wood flooring floor, rendered illustration

    Floor fitters for wood flooring

Engineered and solid wood boards floated, glued or secret-nailed to suit the subfloor. We moisture-test the base, acclimatise the boards in the room and leave the right expansion allowance, which is what stops a timber floor cupping or gapping. Engineered boards are the usual choice over underfloor heating.

    Wood floor fitting

  • Floor fitters for herringbone and parquet floor, rendered illustration

Floor fitters for herringbone and parquet

Herringbone, chevron and parquet block floors in engineered wood, solid wood or LVT. Pattern floors are set out from a centre line, so the zigzag runs true through doorways and finishes evenly at both walls. Borders and tramlines can be added, and the subfloor is always smoothed first.

How much does floor fitting cost in Ipswich?

Fitting is priced on the floor type, the area, the shape of the room and, more than anything, the state of the subfloor. The figures below are typical UK labour-only rates from published 2026 price guides. They are a guide, not our price list. You buy the flooring separately, and your price is fixed in writing after the survey.

Floor Typical UK fitting-only guide What moves the price
Laminate, click £8 to £20 per m² Room shape, door frames to undercut, beading or skirting
LVT £15 to £30 per m² Glue-down or click, herringbone layout, subfloor smoothing
Engineered and solid wood £20 to £40 per m² Floated, glued or nailed, board width, acclimatising
Herringbone and parquet Above the plank rate Setting out, borders, the number of cuts
Carpet Quoted per room Stairs and landings, seams, underlay and gripper
Sheet vinyl and lino Quoted per room Templating, toilets and pedestals, plywood overlay
Levelling and smoothing compound £8 to £18 per m² Depth needed, damp-proof membrane, old adhesive

Subfloors our floor fitters work over

Concrete and sand-cement screed

Most ground floors. We test for moisture, grind off old adhesive and apply smoothing compound so LVT, vinyl and wood have a flat, sound base. New slabs and extensions need time to dry, and a surface damp-proof membrane is used where readings are high.

Suspended floorboards

Common in the Victorian and 1930s houses around the town centre. Loose boards are fixed, damaged ones replaced, and the floor is overlaid with plywood before vinyl or LVT. Carpet and floating floors can often go straight over sound boards.

Chipboard panels

Standard upstairs in houses built since the 1970s, and throughout Kesgrave and Martlesham Heath. We screw down squeaks, replace panels swollen by old leaks, especially around baths and toilets, and check the joints are level before fitting.

Screed with underfloor heating

The heating is switched off before fitting and brought back up gradually afterwards. We use adhesives and underlays rated for heated floors, and check that the floor you have bought is approved for underfloor heating by its manufacturer.

Old tiles and adhesive residue

Quarry tiles, ceramic tiles and the black bitumen adhesive found under old vinyl tiles. Sound tiles can be primed and smoothed over. Residues are sealed or removed so the new adhesive bonds properly.

Flooring fitters for floors bought anywhere

We are based at 5a Arcade Street in the centre of town. We fit carpet, luxury vinyl tile, sheet vinyl, laminate, engineered and solid wood, and patterned floors such as herringbone and parquet.

From a hard-wearing stair carpet to luxury flooring such as engineered oak, luxury vinyl tile and herringbone parquet, the process is the same, and so is the care taken over it.

A floor is only as good as what sits under it. Every job starts with a look at the subfloor, the door clearances and the rooms either side. We remove the old floor, level and repair the base ourselves, and quote for the whole job, not just the boards.

How a flooring installation works

  1. Tell us about the project. Rooms, rough sizes, and the floor you have in mind.
  2. Survey and measure. We check the subfloor, moisture, levels, doors and thresholds.
  3. Written quote. Materials, preparation and fitting are itemised so you can see where the money goes.
  4. Fitting. The old floor comes up, the base is prepared, the new floor is installed and trims and thresholds are finished.
  5. Handover. We walk the floor with you and explain how to look after it.

The full process, including what happens to your old floor, is on the flooring installation page.

What a floor fitting quote includes

Two rooms of the same size can cost very different amounts, because the work underneath differs. So every quote is broken into lines you can check:

  • A measure, with the exact quantity to order including the cutting allowance the room shape needs
  • Advice on the underlay or adhesive that suits the floor, the subfloor and any underfloor heating
  • Uplift and disposal of the existing floor
  • Subfloor preparation: smoothing compound, plywood, moisture treatment or repairs
  • Fitting, including stairs where they are part of the job
  • Trims, thresholds, beading or refitting skirting, and door trimming

If something cannot be assessed until the old floor is up, the quote says so and gives a range.

  1. The floor you choseCarpet, LVT, vinyl, laminate or wood
  2. Underlay or adhesiveMatched to the floor and the heating
  3. Smoothing compound or plywoodMakes the base flat
  4. Damp-proof membraneOnly where moisture readings call for it
  5. Your subfloorConcrete, screed, boards or chipboard
Every quote covers the whole build-up, not only the layer you see.

Floor preparation, levelling and repairs

Uneven concrete, loose boards, damp screed and old adhesive are dealt with before the new floor goes down. Thin floors such as sheet vinyl and glue-down LVT show every ridge beneath them, and wood reacts to moisture in the base, so this stage decides how long the finished floor lasts. We also take on levelling, screeding and repairs as jobs in their own right. Read how we prepare subfloors.

Flooring for your home

The right floor depends on the room and who uses it. A hallway with a dog and two children needs something different from a spare bedroom, and a bathroom rules out half the options before you start. Our residential flooring guide goes room by room, with straight answers on pets, moisture, noise, stairs and underfloor heating. It also covers rental properties, where durability and turnaround time matter most.

Why use a fitting-only flooring contractor

  • Every floor type, one company. Carpet, LVT, vinyl, laminate and wood, so every room in the house is covered.
  • Fitting is all we do. We do not sell flooring, so we have no reason to steer you towards one product. Buy from any retailer and we fit it.
  • Subfloor first. We level, repair and damp-proof floors ourselves, so problems are found at the survey and not passed to another trade.
  • Itemised quotes. Preparation, underlay, trims and fitting are shown separately.
  • Local. A town-centre base, working across the A1214 and A12 corridor to Woodbridge.

Local floor fitters across east Suffolk

Our Ipswich floor fitters work throughout the town and east along the A1214 and A12 to Kesgrave, Martlesham and Woodbridge. If you are elsewhere in Suffolk, ask. The service areas page shows current coverage, and there is a separate page for neighbourhoods within Ipswich.

Questions people ask our floor fitters

How much do floor fitters charge?

Fitting cost depends on the type of floor, the area, the state of the subfloor, the laying pattern and whether stairs are involved. We quote after a survey so the figure is one you can rely on.

Can your floor fitters fit over my existing floor?

Sometimes. It depends on what is there, how flat it is and the height it adds at doors. We check at the survey.

Which floor is best for a kitchen?

LVT and sheet vinyl handle spills best. Laminate and wood need more care around water, and carpet is not recommended.

Do your Ipswich floor fitters supply the flooring?

No. We only fit. You buy the floor from whichever shop or website you prefer. We measure first and tell you exactly how much to order, so you do not over-buy or run short.

Do your floor fitters work outside the town?

Yes. Kesgrave, Martlesham and Woodbridge are regular areas.

How long does floor fitting take?

A single room of carpet, laminate or sheet vinyl is usually fitted in a day. LVT, wood and herringbone take longer, and smoothing compound needs drying time before the floor goes down. We give you the programme with the quote.

Will your floor fitters take away the old floor?

Yes, lifting and disposing of the old floor covering can be included. Tell us what is down now and we will price it as its own line.

Do I need to empty the room first?

Small items and anything fragile should be out before we arrive. Tell us about heavy furniture, pianos and appliances at the survey so moving them is agreed in the quote.

Can floor fitters work over underfloor heating?

Yes. Engineered wood, LVT, laminate and many carpets are suitable if the manufacturer approves the product. The heating is turned off before fitting and brought up slowly afterwards.

Will you fit flooring I bought online or from a DIY store?

Yes. Tell us the product so we can check the fitting method, the underlay or adhesive it needs, and whether the quantity is right before fitting day.
